The department conducts research on\n the properties, light–matter interactions, and transformations of chemical compounds\n and materials. Chemistry plays a critical role in addressing societal and industrial\n challenges, including energy, sustainability, environmental protection, and health.
The\n department contributes to the development of new and improved compounds, materials,\n and processes, while providing education at all academic levels in chemistry, medicinal\n chemistry, and nanoscience. In addition, the department contributes to teaching in\n biochemistry, biology, molecular biomedicine, environmental chemistry and health,\n and biotechnology.
To further advance research in material development and fundamental\n photophysical processes, the department requires advanced optical characterization\n equipment that can be fully integrated with existing instrumentation in this research\n area.
The Department of Chemistry thus wishes to acquire a research-grade confocal\n microscopy system with fully integrated fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM)\n capability based on time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC).
The system\n is required for advanced studies of photogenerated charge-carrier dynamics and time-resolved\n fluorescence processes in semiconductor and biological materials. Direct optical coupling and synchronization with an\n external femtosecond laser source with picosecond timing precision.
3. Integration\n of at least two independent excitation ports, enabling connection of multiple excitation\n sources, including an existing in-house femtosecond laser.
4. Decoupled back-port\n excitation and emission (collection) beam pathways to enable confocal measurements\n of exciton migration and charge-carrier diffusion in functional materials.
5.\n Replication of peer-reviewed methodologies (e.g., ACS Energy Lett. 2020, 5, 117–123;\n Adv. Funct. Mater. 2025, 35, 2500097) for quantitative measurement of photoinduced\n charge-carrier diffusion in halide perovskite materials under experimentally comparable\n conditions. Reliable benchmarking is required because charge transport parameters\n in these materials are known to vary across laboratories due to differences in material\n preparation, environmental control, and instrumentation. Cross-laboratory comparability\n is therefore essential to validate the experimental setup and ensure reproducibility\n of quantitative transport measurements.
6. Large-area FLIM imaging (up to 250\n µm × 250 µm) with stable focal volume and consistent lifetime accuracy across the\n scan field.
7. Time-resolved investigation of dynamic protein interactions using\n time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC), requiring both high temporal precision\n (~5 ps time bin width) and rapid data acquisition (dead time approximately 0.65 ns\n per TCSPC channel) simultaneously. These requirements can be achieved through the\n combination of the FLIMbee galvo scanner and the patented rapidFLIM error correction\n method (patent number: EP 3 431 967 B1).
8. Fully integrated TCSPC-based FLIM\n operation with 5 ps temporal resolution.
9. Guaranteed technical interoperability\n between ultrafast laser synchronization electronics, TCSPC modules, detectors, optical\n beam routing components, scanning units, and microscope control software within one\n validated system architecture.

Market Assessment and Technical Evaluation
Based\n on the market coverage conducted, no other commercially available confocal or FLIM\n system can fulfil this combination of requirements within one validated and manufacturer-supported\n platform. Alternative suppliers either lack external femtosecond laser compatibility,\n do not support the required multi-port optical architecture, or require non-standard\n third-party integration and custom modifications. Such approaches would make it technically\n impossible to ensure the required timing accuracy, system stability, interoperability,\n and manufacturer responsibility for performance, service, and maintenance.

In\n addition, the acquisition includes specialized components, such as a customized backport\n excitation module for decoupling excitation and detection beams, a multi-laser excitation\n system supporting up to eight picosecond diode lasers with wavelength selection, and\n time-resolved fluorescence optics and analysis tools, that are research-grade, manufactured\n specifically for this purpose, and designed to operate exclusively within the PicoQuant\n system architecture. These components are not commercially available from other suppliers\n and cannot be substituted without causing technical incompatibility or disproportionate\n operational risk.
Conclusion

Based on documented market analysis and\n technical evaluation, and due to mandatory requirements concerning timing precision,\n external laser compatibility, decoupled optical architecture, and fully integrated\n system validation, no equivalent alternative solution is available at the time of\n procurement.
The required system and associated modules constitute specialized\n research-grade instrumentation for advanced time-resolved fluorescence applications\n and are available only as a fully integrated, manufacturer-supported configuration\n from a single supplier.
\n
\n university’s central\n unit for research and education in chemistry.
The platform must\n support direct coupling to an external femtosecond laser source and enable independent\n routing of excitation and emission beam paths.
The required configuration includes:
•\n A main optical unit for excitation beam in coupling and fluorescence detection.
•\n At least two independent excitation ports, including compatibility with an existing\n in-house femtosecond laser source.
• A customized back-port excitation module\n allowing excitation through the microscope back port while maintaining independent\n emission detection.
• Fully integrated TCSPC-based FLIM operation with high time-resolution\n and simultaneous rapid data acquisition. These performance requirements must be achieved\n through a galvo-based scanning unit combined with a validated real-time TCSPC error-correction\n technology (patented), ensuring high temporal precision and acquisition speed within\n a fully integrated system architecture.
• A galvo-based scanning unit capable\n of maintaining consistent focal volume across large scan areas (up to 250 µm × 250\n µm).
• A variable wavelength selector for flexible and tuneable detection.
•\n Guaranteed interoperability between laser synchronization electronics, TCSPC modules,\n detectors, beam-routing optics, and microscope control software.

The purchase\n concerns a confocal microscopy system with fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy\n (FLIM) capability, designed for advanced studies of photo-generated charge-carrier\n dynamics. The system must support direct coupling to an external femtosecond laser\n source and allow full decoupling of excitation and emission beam paths. It includes\n a main optical unit for excitation beam incoupling, fluorescence detection, and flexible\n integration of free-space and fiber-coupled excitation ports. A customized back-port\n excitation module is required to enable excitation through the microscope back port\n while independently monitoring emission, allowing confocal imaging of charge-carrier\n diffusion and migration.

\n
\n Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen is the university’s central unit for research and education in chemistry. The department conducts research on the properties, light–matter interactions, and transformations of chemical compounds and materials. Chemistry plays a critical role in addressing societal and industrial challenges, including energy, sustainability, environmental protection, and health.\nThe department contributes to the development of new and improved compounds, materials, and processes, while providing education at all academic levels in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and nanoscience. In addition, the department contributes to teaching in biochemistry, biology, molecular biomedicine, environmental chemistry and health, and biotechnology.\nTo further advance research in material development and fundamental photophysical processes, the department requires advanced optical characterization equipment that can be fully integrated with existing instrumentation in this research area.\nThe Department of Chemistry thus wishes to acquire a research-grade confocal microscopy system with fully integrated fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) capability based on time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC).\nThe system is required for advanced studies of photogenerated charge-carrier dynamics and time-resolved fluorescence processes in semiconductor and biological materials. The platform must support direct coupling to an external femtosecond laser source and enable independent routing of excitation and emission beam paths.\nThe required configuration includes:\n• A main optical unit for excitation beam in coupling and fluorescence detection.\n• At least two independent excitation ports, including compatibility with an existing in-house femtosecond laser source.\n• A customized back-port excitation module allowing excitation through the microscope back port while maintaining independent emission detection.\n• Fully integrated TCSPC-based FLIM operation with high time-resolution and simultaneous rapid data acquisition. These performance requirements must be achieved through a galvo-based scanning unit combined with a validated real-time TCSPC error-correction technology (patented), ensuring high temporal precision and acquisition speed within a fully integrated system architecture.\n• A galvo-based scanning unit capable of maintaining consistent focal volume across large scan areas (up to 250 µm × 250 µm).\n• A variable wavelength selector for flexible and tuneable detection.\n• Guaranteed interoperability between laser synchronization electronics, TCSPC modules, detectors, beam-routing optics, and microscope control software.\n\nThe purchase concerns a confocal microscopy system with fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) capability, designed for advanced studies of photo-generated charge-carrier dynamics. The system must support direct coupling to an external femtosecond laser source and allow full decoupling of excitation and emission beam paths. It includes a main optical unit for excitation beam incoupling, fluorescence detection, and flexible integration of free-space and fiber-coupled excitation ports. A customized back-port excitation module is required to enable excitation through the microscope back port while independently monitoring emission, allowing confocal imaging of charge-carrier diffusion and migration. In addition, an upgrade is needed to provide a variable wavelength selector for flexible and wavelength-tunable detection.","bkSubTypeKode":"25","bkSubType":"Bekendtgørelse med henblik på frivillig forudgående gennemsigtighed – det generelle direktiv","erAendring":false},"indholdsType":"HENTET_FRA_TED","sekundaereOrdregivere":[],"udforelsesstedNutsCode":["DK011"],"udforelsesstedSubLand":["Byen København"],"udforelsesstedLand":["Danmark"],"udforelsesstedBy":[],"tilbudsfrister":[],"intressentfrister":[],"deltagelsefrister":[],"svarfrister":[],"antalParts":0,"antalLots":1,"udbudsDokumenter":[]},"opsummeringEN":{"card":{"titel":"Acquisition of a confocal microscopy system with FLIM to KI","ordregiver":"Københavns Universitet","ordregiverId":"29979812","ordregiverIdDatavasket":"29979812","publiceringsdato":"2026-03-24+01:00","cpvKode":"38000000","cpvTitel":"Laboratory, optical and precision equipments (excl. glasses)","formulartype":"Direct award preannouncement","formulartypeKode":"dir-awa-pre","tidsfrister":[],"alleOrdregivere":["Københavns Universitet"],"beskrivelse":"The Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen is the university’s central unit for research and education in chemistry.
