9453 - 2D focusing multilayer laue lens
The demand for nano-resolution X-ray tomography at DanMAX requires an X-ray focussing device with the following characteristics:
- Operating in hard-X-ray regime (photon energies above 20 keV). This is a requirement for
both, hard condensed matter samples, where penetrating power is needed, and soft tissues
samples, where high energy and phase contrast imaging mode is required to minimize the
deposited doze and beam damage
- Physical beam acceptance of the order of 100x100 pm2 or larger: this matches the beam
parameters of the DanMAX beamline
- Focussing below 200 nm - the requirement given by DanMAX science cases.
- Working distance of 50 mm or more - the requirement for the in situ experiments with different
sample environments
- Compact design, especially in the beam direction, in order to fit the tomography instrument.
After a thorough market evaluation and consultations with experts in the field, no other type of optics can fulfil all the requirements, and to our knowledge no other manufacturer than AXO Dresden currently produces multilayer Laue lenses.
